artnet Auctions scored over US $12 million in sales in 2010, a sizeable increase over the preceding year. Buyers hailed from around the globe, ranging from Texas and New York to Islamabad and Hong Kong. They love artnet Auctions’ fast turnaround on sales, which can be finalized in a few weeks, compared to the six months or a year required by the brick-and-mortar art auctioneers. artnet Auctions routinely sees works by blue chip modern and contemporary artists sell in the five- and six-figure range. As 2010 draws to a close, let’s take a look back at the top ten lots of the year.

1. In February a painting by Richard Prince titled Last Week (1999) sold for US $295,000 (prices exclude the 15 percent buyer's premium). Combining childish drawings of stick figures and daisies set at an animated angle against a sensuous green ground, the work is captioned with a classic Henny Youngman-style joke with Oedipal overtones: "I said to my mother-in-law, my house is your house. Last week she sold it."

2. More recently, a rare and complete series of 30 prints by Agnes Martin, On a Clear Day (1973), sold for US $130,500. Printed in gray on cream-colored paper, the much sought-after print marks a threshold in Martin’s œuvre, when she abandoned the cosmopolitan artistic life in favor of the selfless serenity of the desert. A landmark of Minimalism, On a Clear Day was shown in its entirety at the Museum of Modern Art in the year that it was made. The price is an auction high for this work.

3. Andy Warhol is the lingua franca of the art market, and in April, Warhol’s beatific Venus (from "Details of Renaissance Paintings") - Sandro Botticelli, Birth of Venus, 1482 (1984) sold for US $93,500, a high price for a good impression of this serigraph, from an edition of 70, which is signed and numbered in pencil.

4. Another rare work brought a high price in May, when Sol LeWitt’s Lines in All Directions (1993) sold for US $76,500. The ca. 60 x 60 in. gouache on paper, whose title explains exactly the rules used to generate the image, is emblematic of the artist’s immensely popular marriage of lively and colorful design with idea-based Conceptual and Minimal art. The work is signed and dated.

5. Earlier this year, in recognition of the almost feverish interest in modern and contemporary design, artnet launched its new Design Marketplace. That heated demand for design masterpieces extended to artnet Auctions as well, with the sale in October of Ron Arad’s dramatic Blo Void 1 (2005), a mirror-polished and woven aluminum seating unit, for US $73,500. The work is the signed and numbered, from an edition of 20.

6. The sixth highest lot from 2010 was a pair of Andy Warhol Mao prints from the 1972 portfolio that sold for US $64,000. Inspired by U.S. President Richard Nixon’s historic visit to China that same year, Warhol drew a pointed parallel between Hollywood celebrity in the U.S. and the cult of Mao in China. These prints are also the first to include Warhol’s signature background scribbles, a motif that anticipates the graffiti movement as it looks back to Abstract-Expressionism.

7. Something special happened when the Abstract-Expressionists made sketches and even paintings on pages of newspaper -- their swashbuckling vision became even more urgent, and sent their roots deeper into the bohemian poverty of their era. So it wasn’t so surprising that artnet Auctions sold in May Willem de Kooning’s Untitled (landscape) (1973), an oil sketch on the New York Times (now laid on canvas), for US $60,001. The woman-as-landscape motif features de Kooning’s signature pink flesh hue.

8. Among the motifs made famous by the great Pop artist Jim Dine, who gave a revealing interview to artnet Magazine not too long ago, is the red valentine heart (first used by the artist in 1965 as part of a stage set for a San Francisco production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream). In the heat of the summer, artnet Auctions sold Dine’s The Fall from Grace (4th Version) for US $60,000. In this small (36 x 24 in.) oil on canvas, however, the artist embellished the central heart image with a spooky Surrealist eye, making the timeless emblem of love seem more otherworldly than ever.

9. As one can see with a quick glance at the artnet Decorative Art Price Database, the Moscow-based, late 19th-century artisan Pavel Ovchinnikov , who can be placed with the School of Fabergé, made beautifully decorated Orthodox Christian icons as well as elaborate presentation tea sets and other commemorative items. In February, one such work -- a Massive Russian Gilded Silver Punchbowl and Matching Ladle -- sold on artnet Auctions for US $60,000.

10. Despite the continuing dominance of the art market by male artists, women are well-represented, and occasionally break the top ten. This year, along with the Agnes Martin suite mentioned above, the mystic Japanese Yayoi Kusama earned a spot on the list when her Pumpkins (2006), a portfolio of five prints from an edition of eight, sold for US $55,000.

Při aukcích výtvarného umění se v Praze prodala díla za milionové částky. Nejvíce dal kupec za obraz Vinobraní od Toyen, a to 6,5 milionu korun bez dvacetiprocentní aukční přirážky. Z aukce pořádané společností Prague Auctions si dále milovníci umění odnesli za 3,7 milionu dílo Emila Filly Já som bača velmi starý nebo za 3,05 milionu obraz Linie č. 206 od Zdeňka Sýkory z roku 2002. Řekl to Ondřej Sýkora z Prague Auctions.
Obrazy od Toyen (vlastním jménem Marie Černínové) patří mezi nejdražší česká výtvarná díla. Její obraz Spící se prodal za 20 milionů korun bez aukční přirážky.

Prague Auctions celkem prodala díla za 20 milionů korun. Další prodej uměleckých děl pořádala aukční síň Meissner Neumann. Z českého umění dal nejvíce kupec na telefonu za olej na plátně Nevěsta od Alfonse Muchy z roku 1917, a to dva miliony korun. Vyvolávací cena byla 1,2 milionu.

Zlom na českém trhu: Kupujeme i cizince
Při této aukci byla ale k prodeji především zahraniční díla. Olej na plátně s názvem Jeune fille aux perles od francouzské malířky a grafičky Marie Laurencinové se prodal za vyvolávací cenu tří milionů korun. Za více než dva miliony korun získali zájemci další tři díla francouzských malířů. "Toto v Čechách ještě nikdo neprodal. Je to zlom. Buď se Češi probudili, anebo vstupujeme na evropský trh," poznamenal Neumann k prodeji zahraničních děl.

Provize aukční síně Meissner-Neumann je 15 procent. Všechny uvedené ceny jsou bez přirážky. Celkem kupci na této aukci koupili díla za asi 43 milionů korun, což Neumann označil za dosud největší úspěch aukční síně.

Za rekordní částku 29,7 milionu liber (908,8 milionu korun) se ve středu v londýnské dražební síni Sotheby's prodal obraz britského malíře J. M. W. Turnera. Odhady přitom počítaly s částkou 12 až 18 milionů liber, napsala dnes agentura Reuters.

Turnerův obraz Modern Rome - Campo Vaccino byl nejdražší položkou aukce starých mistrů a britských malířů. O dílo, které bylo zatím na prodej jen jednou za 171 let své existence, se doslova popralo šest dražitelů a rekordní částka padla po pouhých pěti minutách.

Dosud nejdražším Turnerovým obrazem byl pohled na Benátky nazvaný Giudecca, La Donna della Salute and San Giorgio, který se v dubnu 2006 prodal za více než 20 milionů liber.

Středeční aukce celkem vynesla 53,5 milionu liber, přičemž téměř polovina dražených děl překonala své původní odhady.

Joseph Mallord William Turner je jedním z nejuznávanějších britských malířů. Žil v letech 1775 až 1851 a je znám především oleji s nejasnými konturami, v nichž odvážně experimentoval se světlem. Tyto originální obrazy se odkláněly od dosavadní akademické tradice a předjímají impresionismus.

When in 1887, a tall, physically imposing and enigmatic young man arrived in Paris from the Ile-de-la-Réunion, a French colony far away in the Indian Ocean, no-one could have guessed that within a decade he was to become one of the most fascinating and significant figures in the history of modern art. Ambroise Vollard (1866-1939) had an extraordinary instinct for detecting unrecognised genius. Not only was he responsible for a series of stellar exhibitions by such then unknown names as Cézanne, Van Gogh, Gauguin and Picasso, but he had a passion for original prints and for publishing the most beautifullivres d'artiste or artists' books. This historic sale at Sotheby's in Paris will reveal the broad range of his enthusiasms. Highlights of the sale include an early portrait by Cézanne of his childhood friend, the great novelist Emile Zola as well as risqué monotypes by Degas including the celebrated La Fête de la patronne. The sale also showcases a striking example of Gauguin's rare and inventive monotypes or transfer drawings that he made with Vollard's encouragement and such important early prints by Picasso as Le Repas frugal, 1904 from the artist's Blue Period and Les Saltimbanques, 1905 from the slightly later Rose Period. There is also a very touching self portrait by Renoir dedicated to Ambroise Vollard as well as a striking colour lithograph of Le Chapeau Epinglé, one of the most popular printed works by the artist. Alongside these remarkable pieces, collectors will find smaller gems such as an anonymous photograph showing Vollard at a dinner table surrounded by his artist friends, and delightful handwritten pages penned by Chagall recounting his first arrival in Paris. All of the works in the sale were in Vollard's possession until his death in 1939 and have remained unseen, locked away in bank vaults, for over seventy years.

PARIS - Ambroise Vollard (1866-1939) is surely one of the greatest art merchants in history. We owe him the first real Cézanne retrospective (1895), a similar operation for Van Gogh (1896) and the first large exhibition dedicated to Picasso in Paris (1901 ). Nearly three quarters of a century after his demise, the Vollard heritage reappears unexpectedly with the «Vollard coffer». The group of works had been bequeathed by Vollard, right before dying, to his young Yugoslav assistant (who according to some was his lover) Eric Chlomovic. Following the latter’s disappearance in a concentration camp in 1942 the iron coffer survived a train accident, the looting by Bulgarian soldiers, the curiosity of the Yugoslav State … before being found again in the safes of the Société Générale in Paris in 1979. The procedures were very long and finally the contents of this coffer reappeared on the market. On 22 June, a superb Fauve landscape by Derain was up for auction in London (Trees in Collioure from 1905, sold for £16.3 million). On 29 June the rest of the contents of the coffer will be up for sale in Paris. The treasures held in this coffer are surely interesting (such as a portrait of Zola by Cézanne, monotypes by Degas and Picas so), but definitely much less than their fantastic wanderings.

Praha - Český stát získal pro Národní galerii v Praze lunetu z cyklu O svatém Václavovi od Karla Škréty za 4,6 milionu korun. Olejomalba nesoucí název Zlický kníže Radslav se pokořuje sv. Václavu byla v nabídce čtvrteční aukce v pražském Topičově salonu, stát ale využil předkupní právo.

O jednu z maleb, jež patří k nejkvalitnějším z celého Škrétova cyklu, stála Národní galerie i proto, že významnému baroknímu malíři připravuje na podzim velkou výstavu. Olejomalba pochází z majetku Jiřího Lobkowicze. Podle zákona muselo být dílo jako kulturní památka před prodejem nabídnuto státu, ministerstvo kultury předkupní právo uplatnilo.

Podzimní Škrétova retrospektiva přinese téměř 400 exponátů, které budou vystaveny v Jízdárně Pražského hradu a ve Valdštejnské jízdárně. Výstavě předchází rozsáhlý průzkum Škrétovy tvorby a života. Díky němu se například podařilo dohledat neznámá Škrétova díla nebo poopravit jeho životopisné detaily.

Na aukci, kterou pořádala společnost 1. Art Consulting, se mohli zájemci účastnit dražby 51 uměleckých předmětů, celková vyvolávací cena činila zhruba 40 milionů korun. Někteří ze sběratelů a zájemců usilovali o díla na místě, jiní přihazovali po telefonu. Několik obrazů se vydražilo za více než milion korun.

Nejdražším obrazem se stala olejomalba Rudolfa Kremličky Tři ženy v lázni, která se vydražila za 5,4 milionu korun. K ceně se ještě připočítává aukční přirážka ve výši 18 procent. Vyvolávací cena přitom byla 2,6 milionu korun.

Druhým nejdražším obrazem aukce se stalo s cenou pět milionů korun dílo Emila Filly Zátiší s ovocem, pohárem a lahví oleje z roku 1925. Vyvolávací cena byla o 200 000 korun nižší. Pětimilionové hranici se přiblížil i obraz Jana Zrzavého Dvůr v Kácově z roku 1940, které zájemce získal za vyvolávací cenu 4,8 milionu korun.

Za více než tři miliony korun se pak vydražila olejomalba Františka Kupky L'étang (Rybník) z roku 1905, když vítězný zájemce k vyvolávací ceně 2,7 milionu korun "přihodil" 350.000 korun.

V nabídce byla i díla dalších známých autorů českého malířství, jako jsou Josef Čapek, Václav Špála, Jindřich Štyrský, ale i obrazy z druhé poloviny 20. století, například Jiřího Koláře či Václava Boštíka. Téměř čtvrtina nabízených položek pochází restitucí z Národní galerie nebo z významných sbírek, jako byla sbírka továrníka Jindřicha Waldese či Vincence Kramáře.

S večerními aukcemi začala společnosti 1. Art Consulting loni po vzoru světových metropolí. Draží se při nich jen málo děl, tři až pět desítek, avšak vybírají se špičková díla starého a moderního umění.

Zejména jarní dražba byla mimořádně úspěšná, prodal se na ní loňský nejdražší obraz, Zhroucené vertikály Františka Kupky byly vydražené za 22 milionů. Tato jediná aukce se postarala o rovnou čtvrtinu celkového obratu aukčních síní za prvního půl roku.
